Our History

Our history drives our future

We’ve come a long way in a quarter of a century, but our heritage remains integral to who we are today and we are still driven by that same overarching desire to make things better.

Our story began in 1996, with the establishment of Medicom Medical Computer Solutions by Howard Beggs, our Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer.

Starting with a patient management product for medical consultants, Medicom expanded by the late 1990s into the world of software for general practice, and then again into the pharmacy sector.

As the years progressed, our technology grew to encompass the management of clinical information; the production of prescriptions; the management of drug regimes and long-term illnesses; and then into much deeper and richer connectivity. In GPs surgeries, pharmacies and hospitals, our technology underpins the crucial work being done by healthcare professionals.

Along the way, our name changed twice. In 2006, through a strategic merger, Medicom became Helix Health, a medium-sized Ireland and UK business with almost 100 employees and annual revenues of €10 million. In 2014, Helix became Clanwilliam, an international business that could incorporate and integrate like-minded healthcare technology companies across a number of countries – and we soon expanded into three continents.

Through the combination of significant organic growth and our unique mergers and acquisitions (M&A) strategy, the Clanwilliam portfolio has expanded to 19 brands, over 1000 team members and revenues of ~€90m.
